Full Version: A Christmas tree of memories

Just saw a wee article in our local paper and thought what a lovely idea!

Someone put up a fresh Christmas tree just inside the Mall's entrance and for a donation, each person can write their pet's name on an ornament and hang it from the tree - and some are bringing in photos of their pets to place on the tree, as well. It must be lovely and I've made a note to myself to see it before Christmas as all the proceeds go to our local animal shelter - yipee!!

And just a gentle Christmas hint (happy smile) ... local Shelters are thrilled to get cans or bags of dog or cat food (please phone first to see if they prefer a certain type), kitty litter, leashes, toys, etc for the animals. But along with this gentle hint goes a gentle 'warning' ... you may wish to not take your children when you drop off the goodies as dragging little ones away from animals begging to be taken home is bound to end in tears. Unless, of course, you take one home with you! Another happy smile!

A lovely idea, indeed, Mara, and thanks so much for passing it along. I'm working with a local group to build and raise funds for a dog park in our area. This would be a great fund-raiser for next year.

So glad the idea has given you inspiration for fund-raising next year, Dialer - yipee!! smile.gif The tree has been up for just under 2 weeks and I was astonished when the lady told me yesterday evening that they've already have over $4,000 in donations and some have even pledged monthly amounts - wow!

Saw the pet tree last night and it's beautiful! Some of the xmas balls have photos of people's beloved pets, some have their favorite memories hand-written on - and some are plain, but undoubtedly each holds love for their furry little friends they still miss.
