Hi matt - depends what sort of visit you're going to make - do you want lotsa history, se the latest shows, take in the Southbank concerts, exhibitions etc, visit some of the greatest art collections/museums etc., see the countryside (which can be beautiful) .. let's have an idea of what you would really like to do and I'm sure some of us ex-patriate poms can give you some suggestions - be glad to! thumbup2.gif

And are you planning on B&Bs, lovely hotels or hostels? And one all the 'where's' have been decided, don't forget to get the terrific 'Britain Rail Pass' before leaving home, too. Lucky, lucky you! smile.gif

I hope one day, to do a tour of the British Isles, and visit all the Castles, as I am fascinated reading about them and their History. And also visit the birthplace of my ancestors. Sometimes Dreams do come true. smile.gif

Yes, they do! It's a beautiful place, DSTM, and I hope you too get to spend at least a month there, just wandering and discovering this beautiful part of the world.

And I'm hoping you share with us all your adventures over there when you go, matthew26.

If you're planning on visiting London, don't miss the museums! I love books, art, and history and have visited the National History Museum and the British Museum (I love everything Egyptian, and they have an extensive collection!). I would want to go back to London by the end of the year, and spend more time at the museums (only spent a day at each museum and I felt I didn't absorb as much as I wanted to) and visit the countryside, which my sister says is beautiful.

Check your local book store for a book "England from $75 a Day". A very good guide.

I used similar three decades ago when it was just called $15 a day....

Prices were a bit off even then, but we studied the book and were able to choose where to visit on our 30 days there.

Sorry if this isn't still relevant, Was in London back in '79 or '80(?) walked over Tower Bridge (went to top , as well IIRC ) , saw Big Ben , Watched Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace, also went to Madame Tussauds Wax Museum (was pretty cool) All the "regular" tourist things ( Got a picture of me at Trafalgar Square and also at the Statue of Eros in Piccadilly Circus somewhere) . Was only there for 1 day but was a good time as I remember. We tried to get into a "Club" in Soho but was told every time "members only" , Finally talked to a "local" who said he could get us in at his , for what amounted to a 40 dollar cover charge w/ two drink minimum , we decided it wasn't that important, as we only had a couple hours left till our train left back to Portsmith smile.gif
