What do you think are the U.S.'s greatest enemies (nations or organizations)

My choices are India and China, for economic reasons, and Iran (for obvious reasons)

But I also think that Syria and North Korea are big problems.

And not to mention those idiots at the U.N.

"O the U.N., what are you going to do? Hmmmm? Pass a SCARY U.N. resolution"

They only point out problems and neve provide solutions. They're only there to make noise.

I'd have to add the ACLU

First, Iran is not a threat to the lives or liberties of the American People. Iran, according to the latest NIE is not developing nuclear weapons, has not invaded another country for over one hundred years, and has no ability to project its "military power" outside its borders. Even if the NIE is incorrect, a nuclear armed Iran would present no threat to the United States. If the leadership in Iran choosed to develop nuclear weapons, those weapons would be developed for the purposes of deterrence and not to attack the United States. The Iranian leadership is well aware of the fact that any nuclear attack against the United States would reduce thier country to a radioactive sandbox. Deterrence worked with the Soviet Union and Maoist China and it would work with Iran.

I would say the greatest threat to the lives and liberties of the American people is the internal Neocon pestilence. It is the Neocons who think the president should have the authority to imprison any person, without any judicial oversight or review, on his determination that the person in question is a terrorist. It is the Neocons who want to wage a series of aggressive wars in the Middle East in the name of furthering the radical agenda of the Likud Party in Israel. It is the Neocons who by expanding NATO to Russia's near abroad are trying to start another cold war with Russia. In short, I would say the greatest threat to the people of the United States is internal and not external and that threat is the war loving, torture loving, liberty hating, ageda of the Neocons. o

Actually, the same could be said about the far left liberals, too. (Well, different example, though.)

Either extreme of the spectrum pulls us from the original ideals of the founding fathers.

Good Day Zik,

I choose to answer your question this way; I think the USA greatest three enemies are - Fear - Complacency - Debt

Our three greatest enemies are: 1) Complacency at election time. Only about 60% of registered voters bother to vote. But only 60% of all eligible voters bother to register So, 60% 0f 60 % is 36 %. Since the country is pretty much split down the middle that means that less than 20% vote for the next president. 2) The other 80 % is our next gravest enemy because they do nothing else but complain and our 3rd) enemy is that 20 % that actually voted for the president. They now will leave no stone unturned to drive their programs through come hell or high water. We just had six years of that and are at the beginning of another cycle of more of the same.

Sorry lad, (I hoped it was clear), I meant that one of the enemies would be the U.S. withdrawal of diplomatic and military intervention Worldwide. This is what Isolationism is.

Isolation of the U.S.A. by the actions of the rest of the World is unlikely.

How funny, it seems to me our involvment in Iraq, has caused us to become isolated in terms of global respect...

Wasn't there a famous (well liked) former president that said; "It is not our nations duty to dictate other countries form of government"...
The U.S. didn't become great by doing so, we became great by addressing the needs of the U.S.
In addition, we will be in a much better position to help the oppressed, if we are more respected in the global community...
Just for the record, if it (Iraq war) trully was an effort to "help the oppressed", shouldn't of Iraq been about #37 on the list of priorities..?? Oh yeah, that's right, I keep forgetting about the oil!!!!

Some very good points there, I concede. This is why I do not generally discuss politics. There are many sides to it and many points of view on the same subject from different perspectives are credible.

As your perspectives are credible Colonel, I value your (as well as your Countries) perspectives..
I sometimes feel like a fish out of water, as my opinions seem to be more online with the global perspective, rather than my own nations.... However, I consider myself a true American...
