This is something I know nothing about, but the question intrigues me, so I thought I'd see what anyone else may know about this.

One of my daughters is pregnant. She has also developed a head cold. So her immune system is going to be producing antibodies and such to fight the cold off. The question is:

Can this activity by the mother's immune system be passed on to the baby? In other words, could the baby be born with a stronger immune system, more resistant to colds and such?

I've encountered babies that would get colds a couple of times a year, and others that almost never got sick. Seems to me that there must be a reason.

I'd have to check it out about possible immunities passed on from mother to baby that the baby carries with it after birth. I do know that if a mother is nursing her baby that the baby gets immunity from pretty much anything that the mother has had and has developed an immunity to as long as she is nursing the baby. This is why so many babies nursed by their mothers have fewer health problems ie: colds, flu, etc. I know that neither one of my boys contracted anything while I was nursing them while my girlfriends baby caught everything around and was sick off and on all winter.
