QUOTE French scientist Albert Fert and Peter Grunberg of Germany have won the 2007 Nobel Prize for physics.
They discovered the phenomenon of "giant magnetoresistance", in which weak magnetic changes give rise to big differences in electrical resistance. The knowledge has allowed industry to develop sensitive reading tools to pull data off hard drives in computers, iPods and other digital devices. It has made it possible to radically miniaturise hard disks in recent years. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/7035247.stm -------------------- "Not everything that counts can be counted, and not everything that can be counted counts." Good for them! While the discovery/advancement doesn't have a life/death effect on our world it surely has added some extra magic to it.

The German did the work; the Frenchman swilled wine and gobbled cheese.

Good for them! While the discovery/advancement doesn't have a life/death effect on our world it surely has added some extra magic to it. The ramifications of the advancement of this technology has advanced the research in any field utilizing computers, this mean just about anything you can or can't imagine, yes it does effect life and death scenarios. |
