George Carlin, age 71, passed away Sunday, 22 June, due to heart failure.

"Seven Words You Can Never Say on Television" - what a legacy.

On last Tuesday, it was announced that Carlin was being awarded the 11th annual Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, which would have been/will be presented Nov. 10 in Washington and broadcast on PBS.

Even though I hated (READ: absolutely could not stand) Carlin's political views, I do think that he is one of the best stand up comics in history. My mother calls him the Stephen King of comedy. I agree. Too bad to see him go....

I'm glad you posted about George Carlin's death C, I hadn't heard it. He was indeed a talented and unique person when it came to comedy. You're right, the Seven Words You Can Never Say On TV is classic. I also remember when he did his poem about The Affair of the Hair, when long hair was just coming into fashion and parents were having fits about it!! He will be missed.

Over the weekend, SNL repeated its very first show, with Carlin as guest host. It brought back a lot of memories.
