QUOTE Several Internet service providers have agreed to shut down Web sites and online groups that provide child pornography. New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo announced the deal Tuesday, which resulted from a continuing investigation. Verizon, Time Warner Cable, and Sprint have agreed to purge their servers of child porn Web sites and prevent access to child porn newsgroups, which Cuomo's office has identified as a major source of online child pornography. http://www.informationweek.com/news/servic...cleID=208403137 About damn time , now, will the rest do the same ? -------------------- "Not everything that counts can be counted, and not everything that can be counted counts." Thank God,
Personally they should hold the internet carrier legally liable for allowing child porn web sites. (bet ya there wouldn't be anymore) |

(bet ya there wouldn't be anymore) Totally agree - it's good that they're able to ge the creeps using the site, let's hope it enables to the identification and arrest of the sickos that actually start the site -------------------- do what you will, but harm not yourself or any other

About damn time , now, will the rest do the same ? I'm with you on this. It certainly would seem that this should have been done a long time ago. QM - [sarcasm]are you suggesting we violate criminal's privacy to catch and arrest them?[/sarcasm] UJJ - I think it would be extremely difficult to hold the ISP/carriers responsible in total. They should block access to known sites, but it would be almost impossible to identify every new site that comes online. Also, these sites don't have "child porn here" tags, so it may be a little tricky to determine which sites are offensive, especially since each country has different laws regulating what is deemed either child porn or porn in general. It would, of course, be better were it a world wide effort, for surely no society in this day and age could condone this dispicable perversion and it would not take too much surely, to get international agreement to co-operate
A world wide forum could be held by all providers that could perhaps enlist users help to flag up any such monstrosities that may occur. -------------------- Snana, the friendly Sioux. |

A number of sites for reporting already exist (found these all on google ) http://crime.about.com/od/childporn/qt/porn_report.htm http://www.vachss.com/help_text/report_child_porn.html http://www.asacp.org/page.php http://www.usdoj.gov/criminal/ceos/childporn.html the last one has a link at the bottom for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. -------------------- "Not everything that counts can be counted, and not everything that can be counted counts." Hear hear, or is it here here. Shoot 'em all and let the devil sort them out. Sorry, doesn't sound even close to painful enough... -------------------- "Not everything that counts can be counted, and not everything that can be counted counts." While in no possible way could I ever understand the complexity of creating a website (nor do I want to)
A corporation with thousands of employees has no excuse for letting sites of dubiuos character use their technology for any such anti-social behavior. This goes for anyone plotting terrorism, child porn, or any other such evil things. I do belive that google, yahoo or other such search engines have the ability to monitor web sites within their domain. I do know our government has the ability to hear you use a trigger word when using cell phones, so I would venture a guess that google can see what you post anywhere if they were to look. And if they are not doing so, then they too should be held accountable for their indifference. I just saw where the founder of google purchased a $35,000,000 ticket to go into outer space, I think he can afford to make sure his domain is not being infiltrated by perverts. |
