Since the Worst President topic was so popular, I would like to see what presidents people do like.
My favorite is Thomas Jefferson. He had already established himself as one of the greatest Americans ever before he even became president. His response to Shay's Rebellion, I think, set him apart from the other founders as he continued to support the right of the people to resist tyranny even after independence from Britian was won, proving that his convictions did not change after power was transferred to the US gov. While he was president, of course, he made the greatest real estate deal in history, the Louisiana Purchase. Without war, he expanded the US drastically. The change from 13 colonies to a continental nation was virtually accomplished by Jefferson alone. -------------------- Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose.

He was magnanimous and forebearing. He built a Cabinet fom his compeitiors for the office of President and successfully managed them and led them through the crisis. He never lost sight of his mission and his principles. Our nation as we know it would not exist if not for Lincoln. |
