Who do you think is the worst modern day president? I was in a discussion last night with an older gentleman who believes it was Jimmy Carter. Are there any other JC haters out there?

Not A hater but he was a terrible President and still insists on being a loser. Carter continues to violate the unwritten rule that former Presidents never criticize their successors. While he travels around the world he makes a villian of our leaders and condemns his own country. I remember him best with these wonders of Administration.
The US jobless rate was more than 10 per cent. Inflation touched 15 per cent. Soviet troops marched unmolested into Afghanistan. America watched helpless as its diplomats were held hostage by Iranian revolutionaries for 444 days. Including the failed rescue attempt. In the rest of the world, from Latin America to Asia, American power yielded to the communist advance; economically, America was being bested by Japan and Germany. To me his four years of misery were as pleasing to the USA as the Great Depression, fascism and communism. This is a picture from that Iran Crisis;can anyone confirm for me if the second from right is none other than another great president (sarcasm) Ahmedinejad ?

I'm with boopme, he was a joke (a bad one) then and is the same now as a dnc puppet. The Iran Hostage situation was inexcusable as far as I or any of the fellow Marines I was with floating off the coast of southern Iran at the time. I could continue but most of it would have to be bleeped out.

I would have to go with Woodrow Wilson. He is the one that got us involved in one of those European wars of power and intrigue that our Founding Fathers warned us about. Not only can Wilson be faulted for getting us involved in the slaughterhouse that was WWI, the Federal Reserve, the income tax, and the popular election of Senators rather than thier appointment by state legislatures happend on his watch. It should be added that WWII can be considered an extension of WWI so Wilson's policies can be considered responsible for the rise of Hitler and Stalin, two of the most dispicable actors to enter the stage of world politics. Thanks a million Woodrow!

Having seen the thread title and waiting for the thread to load, (The Colonel is still on dial-up), I immediately chose Carter before laying my eyes upon the posts.

How far back does "modern day" count as? I would agree Wilson was the worst if it goes back that far. If not, then I guess FDR, who finished the job of destroying America and replacing it with a socialist nation. If that's too far back then I'd have to say Dubya.

I know Wilson got us involved in WWI, but he did try to keep us out (his entire first term), and Germany was using unrestricted submarine warfare. The Axis did destroy the Lusitania, didn't they? (or am I completely mixed up?)

Political analyst, who are experts in their field, suggest G. W. Bush is the worst of all time....
Who am I to argue with the experts.... |

I am surprised that no one has mentioned the only President in modern times who was forced to resign from office. Surely that event alone would put R.M.Nixon at the top of the list.

Z That isn't really a good way to choose..., Let's face it, Democrats get impeached for ridiculous reasons (Clinton), and Republicans never get impeached at all, even when there is solid evidence they should (Bush) I agree with Zik on this one, Nixon wasn't near to being the tyrant we have in there now..!!! |

I am surprised that no one has mentioned the only President in modern times who was forced to resign from office. Surely that event alone would put R.M.Nixon at the top of the list. Z That was a different place and a different time, as they say. Nixon did some great an honorable things - the voter fraud in Illinois in 1963, for example, was something that if he persued further would have, as some said, "torn the country apart", and he didn't follow through on it. Fast forward to the problems in the 1999 vote and you'll see what they meant, although arguably it would have been much worse in the early 60's regarding splitting the country apart. He didn't want that to happen. On the other hand, it turns out "he was a crook". The only reason history doesn't reflect that he was impeached is that he resigned before the impeachment proceedings got underway. Interestingly, I believe part of the reasons that Nixon would have been impeached were obstruction of justice and perjury - the exact same charges that were against Clinton. -------------------- |

Yep, that's a Democrat for ya.... Heck, they would even lie to the American public, and use scare tactics to drag us in to an unwinnable war if we would let them...! Thankfully, we reserve those actions for the GOP, and with out any consiquences at all... There are just some traditions that aren't worth giving up.. |

Well Billy certainly lied (I did not have...)and then wasn't even American enough to save the dignity of the Presidency by resigning as Nixon did. Instead we had to pay 300 million for his Lawyers to BS us. Followed by a Senate seat to shut the pink wife up. At least Nixon took his guilt with him.
