Chinese-made toys containing 'date rape' drug are pulled

Well I guess it isn't enough to have leaded paint in their toys. Is no one watching the store over there. This to me is getting to be a serious situation. I wonder what we may be missing.

QUOTE
Two children in the U.S. and three in Australia were hospitalized after swallowing the beads. In the United States, the toy goes by the name Aqua Dots, which are distributed by Spin Master Toys based in Toronto.

FULL STORY

Some of you may have seen my post at BC, but I feel with so many Australian members ,it required posting here too.

Thanks 'Boopme' I did make mention of this previous, but wasn't sure what name this dangerous Toy went under in the US.
With the Chinese record re Lead in toy manufacture,I feel our Authorities need to make stringent checks on just about anything that is sold in our Countries, that originates out of China. Especially when our Children could be at risk of serious injury,or even death.

Thank you so much boopme for bringing this news to TV also. With Christmas on the horizon it is something that we all need to be aware of.
I too have questioned who is minding the store. It seems that cheap labor and large profits have taken precedents over the safety of not only our children but pets as well. Who or what next?

Question: How many reports and recalls were heard concerning tainted foods up until just a few ( very few) years ago? I'm not talking one here and there I'm talking on a regular basis one right after another, or am I the only one that finds this strange?

I found a picture of said toy. The ATA (Austrailian Toy Assc.) ranked it as the #1 toy for 2007!! It seems to me that they wouldnt put their name on something like this. Just look at the star on the side of the box.

Yes, I just read your other posts about dangerous toys too, DSTM, and agree with you and everyone else that something has gone wrong - horribly wrong!

In our case, here in Canada at least, many of the problems arise from so-called 'free trade' and insufficient staff to police boatloads of 'crappy toys' coming in to be sold under well known brand names here.

For here, expensive huge name brand toys have been pulled from the shelves along with the cheapie 'dollar store' types and seeing the 'Toy of the year' star on that gift box makes me want to bite someone. How on earth are buyers supposed to know - whatever happened to the government ensuring things sold in our countries are safe?!

Could someone please clarify something for me?

The last few years I have developed blisters hunting for as many toys as possible "Made in Canada" or "Made in the USA". Only to watch a consumer show the other night saying these stickers don't mean anything. I'm hoping I misunderstood but ...

... if the parts of a toy are made/painted in another country, for instance China, and shipped to the USA unassembled ... if the toy is assembled in the States and the packaging/box is made and printed in the States, it can then have a sticker saying 'Made in USA". Surely this can't be correct?

(Sort of like the fraud re our 'product of Canada' food labels - but that's another topic - gentle grin).

Because of corporate "outsoursing" not only are we losing our JOBS now we have to worry about what we buy, and will it kill us.

Just something to think about -- if you break down a country from the inside out, you can win with out firing a shot!

I believe that this is merely a chemical mishap. Lets face it there is more money to be made selling this as a drug, if someone would try to do this intentionally then it would have been sold as such not $20 for a 100 hits.

As for the lead paint....well they still paint with it over there.
