Latest news saying 7 dead.. And many injured.. Don't know if this is the final number. Good news is the police have catched the guy. He had posted vids on YouTube called Jokela High School Massacre (+ this date) yesterday.. and a vid where he was training with his gun.. Looks like his account was suspended just a moment ago. He'd written something about telling people not to accuse friends/family/music/movies/media and that it was "his war", his idea. He admires Hitler, Stalin etc and supports nazism and darwinism. So sad. I get tired of hearing about these sickos killing others in schools.

Seems like the gunman himself is also dead. At least one source is saying that the police confirmed it.

Or not... He's in a critical state in the hospital as of the latest news. There might be more people dead than 7 though,, all the news are a complete mess right now. There'll be a press conference by the police in about 25mins so I'll find out at that point.

These are such horrors.. So many if and whats...whys
Kim Kiuru, a teacher at the school, said the principal announced over the PA system just before noon (1000GMT) that all students should remain in their classrooms. "I stayed in the corridor to listen to more instructions having locked my classroom door," Kiuru told the YLE radio station. "After that I saw the gunman running with what appeared to be a small caliber handgun in his hand through the doors toward me after which I escaped to the corridor downstairs and ran in the opposite direction." Kiuru said he saw a woman's body as he fled the building. "Then my pupils shouted at me out of the windows to ask what they should do and I told them to jump out of the windows ... and all my pupils were saved," Kiuru said. |

It is, in a way, too bad that young people in his distressed situation don't commit suicide, but feel that they have to take the lives of others first. I suspect that, after the fact, one will understand that there were earlier signs of instability;this incident, like many others like it, could have been prevented had people around him read them correctly and had taken action.
This seems to be the conclusion reached here after so many similar and truly sad acts we in the US have witnessed. Youth should be a time of hope, not despair. Z -------------------- Whereof one cannot speak, thereof one should be silent.
