Everyone should at least look and see what Mike Huckabee stands for. He seems to have strong family values and he is a man of faith. Click on the link below and see what you think about him. If you like what see pass the information on.

Oh dear, I don't wish to offend, Dan, but if American I could not and would not vote for him.

Whatever happened to keeping State and Religion separate? As he says, "all on their knees to salvage this great, great land" and "being good and decent is not enough without God".

What about all those within your great Country that are incredible citizens but don't happen to be part of Christianity. Sigh.

The term "Separation of Church & State" doesn't exist in the Constitution of the United States.

Hmmm. It's just my opinion but after reading the message (the site given was kind enough to provide a written transcript on site), I disagree that religion can be 'blended' with the state and still preserve any rights that citizens of other religions (or no religion) have a right to. And in my heart, feel that a vote for this gentleman, no matter how nice he is, would be voting his religion into power rather than solely his political stand - and as a result, would be a vote to loss so many freedoms many have struggled and even died for.

But rather than pull the intended discussion of 'The next President' away by my arguing the merits of not having religion and state merged or blended and not having it in our public schools, I've started another thread.

We've lived perfectly fine with the separation. We'd just piss off more people upon forcing Christianity upon the general population.

So you also got the impression from the gentleman that is he won, the people would be voting in his religion?

The Constitution forbids the State from either mandating or forbidding any religious practices or beliefs. It does not forbid office-holders from practicing their own religion, whatever that may be. That would be unconstitutional. Indeed, this country has had many fine Presidents that had strong religious ethics. And they didn't do any great harm to the country. Generally. There are always exceptions*.

Just a suggestion to those voicing opinions. Read the First Amendment. It's only a couple of lines, and is really very, very simple.

* Jimmy Carter was the first one that came to mind, for some reason. cool.gif

Do hope I haven't sent our Dan into hiding because I haven't worded my responses well - gentle sigh.

For it's not the fact that this gentleman is a Christian that I don't think he'd be a good President, it's simply because in my opinion I suspect he would 'force' his religion in schools and all areas of life that he could manage.

It's possible I'm wrong but I got the impression that nothing mattered more to him than (quote) "all on their knees to salvage this great, great land" and "being good and decent is not enough without God". (Unquote).

A leader who is a Christian but who also believes that everyone need not worship his God and who also believes that being good and decent is enough without (his) God, would ensure freedom for all - yes. This particular gentleman - no.

Since Christian values were removed from schools (Ten Commandments) school violence has gone through the roof. Look at these statistics. In 2007 it is even worse.

Table 2-1: Public School Teachers Rate The Top Disciplinary Problems

1940 Talking out of turn, Chewing gum, Making noise, Running in the hall, Cutting in line, Dress code violations, Littering

1990 Drug abuse, Alcohol abuse, Pregnancy, Suicide, Rape, Robbery, Assault

You seem to forget that the whole thing is nothing more than political claptrap that would bear no resemblance to how he behaved if he actually did get elected.

I am a Christian but this guy is just too far out for me. He believes that evolution never happened and basically lives in the 18th century. He would continue the Bush policies of appointing judges that believe like he does and, more importantly, rule according to those believes.

Bush is a man of faith and look how well he's done. No thanks. I'll take an exceptional man or woman for an overwhelming position. W is a small man for a huge job regardless of his faith. I think much more criteria is needed than just being a man of faith.
