You just put 8-10 bags in a gall glass jug. Hold them near the top with the lid. Let it sit in the sun from early morn. When you get home in afternoon add sugar and lemon to a tall glass filled wih ice and Yum!!

What kind of tea do you use? I like mine with a sprig of mint as well as the lemon.

And loose tea leaves either tucked in a 'tea ball' or wrapped in cheesecloth work wonderfully too. It's going that I'll have to wait until next summer before making it once again - well, drat! (The The Colonel must live in an area with scads of rain, poor man smile.gif - but those of our members in Australia and New Zealand are lucky enough to be able to make it right now).

Boopme, do you ever use it for making ice-cubes as well? Makes terrific ones for chilling the drink without diluting it with water as the ice cubes melt.

I used to make "sun tea", but read somewhere that it could be harmful.

Snopes.com agrees - "Sun tea can harbor dangerous bacteria"

Boiling is better.

Geesh, one simply can't win with all the health warnings out there - gentle grin. Our great-grandmas, grandmas and mothers all did it and as far as I know none ever died or even got sick from it. Hmmm ... must be the pesky bacteria that's latent in our water or perhaps floating through out air. But at least we have the warning now so can make our informed decisions, so thanks for the info John. Huge drat that we have to worry about one more thing, though. Darn.

Just make sure that the container and lid are cleaned properly and if you boil the water prior to making the tea you shouldn't have any problem with bacteria from the water.

Will boil the water ahead of time ... well, only to the point bubbles start to rise as my Grandmother would lift out of her grave if I over-boiled it and make a 'poor cup of tea' - gentle grin.

Glad you liked the idea about using the tea itself for the ice cubes - I do the same thing whether making lemonade and often add a tiny sprig of fresh mint or a wee piece of lemon zest directly into each cube before it freezes. (And at Christmas we have cranberry punch - and the children know the punch bowl that has a frozen cranberry inside each ice cube (fruit juice cube) is 'hands off' because it also contains alchohol).
