As David Allen Coe said "This Long hair Can't Cover my Redneck". While I listen to Metal and Hard rock most of the time, I find myself loving classic country the most. Hank Williams Sr. and Loretta Lynn's songs just stick in your head. I'm lucky enough to have a radio station strictly devoted to Classic Country Music. I'd love to hear you opinions and favorite songs from this genre.

My favorite personally is Hank Williams "Lost Highway".

QUOTE (blackspyder @ Sep 17 2007, 12:56 AM) *
As David Allen Coe said...

Do you see a striking similarity in names between him and Edgar Allen Poe? tongue.gif

Anyway, I like some country music, but I'm not to into it so I don't know names...but I do know a more modern country song "Swing" that I like...

Regards,
TheYoda

After the demise of CMT on Sky Television over here in the UK we don't get any kind of good old Country and Western anymore.
Here's one of my favourites from that time though.

I listen to a lot of diferent types of music.
I always liked country , as a kid my uncle always played it. Hanks's Hey good lookin, Hot dog. Flatt & Scrugs
They have some of the cleanest git-tar pickers I ever listened to. Bluegrass and Honky Tonk are my faves.

Like blackspyder, I normally listen to metal, but during my time in N.C.
Ray Wylie Hubbard's "Up Against the Wall Redneck Mothers"
David Allen Coe's "Dakota the Dancing Bear"
or any thing by George Jones or Johnny Cash..., Good times thumbup2.gif

Now you're talking music!! Hank Williams is a must on my list along with George Jones,Flatt & Scruggs. As for songs well, Hank's song "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry", George--He Stopped Loving Her Today, F & S--"Foggy Mountain Breakdown" is hard to beat but I have a soft spot for Bluegrass and there it's all about "Fox on the Run". Hey BlackSpyder, want to clog with me!!??

Yeah, I love country too; always have and always will. There is just something about it I guess it is like home growin' up days!!! tune to the Radio!!
I loved Patsy Cline and "Crazy...I Fall to Pieces, there never will be another Patsy. A tragedy indeed.
Then of course...Hank Williams...." Your Cheatin' Heart...Mansion on the Hill"
Freddy Fender!!! (Baldemar Huerta) "Feliz Natvidad....Wasted Days and Wasted Nights....Storms Never Last...Secret Love;"

Stonewall Jackson...."Waterloo"....now I can't stop humming that one..EEKS and it is time to turn in!!
And of course Ferlin Husky...."On the Wings of A Dove"..."My Reason For Living" and Loretta Lynns "Coal Miners Daughter" and I will never forget Minnie Pearl.........."Howdee"..."What is an American" and Sandy Posey..."Battle Hymn of The Republic"...."When Johnny Comes Marching Home Again" and
Pee Wee King & Redd Stewart and "Deck of Cards".

Those are some of my old favourites that are in my record collection that I listen to off and on. Can't seem to hear those quality of songs and artists in the music industry's longevity of shelf life anymore. Half of the time now I don't even know who it is that is on the Grand Ole Opry...I can't recognize the "voice or face"....they haven't developed their own "niche", not like the ones I mentioned earlier. Only MHO.
And the material in the songs is not the same and so I cling to my vinyls!!!!

Tina I have to agree that most modern "country" (if thats what you want to call it) is nameless and faceless. But never the less there are a few that stand out from the crowd and cling to the roots of country music. Namely these 3 fine young fellas: Hank Williams III, Shooter Jennings, and Brad Paisley.

blackspyder, thanks for the heads up on the radio station,I'll have to check it out. I love rock-n-roll, heavy metal, really just about any kind of music but country is up there at the very top!! Great taste Tina!! Years ago when I had to quit working at the bank it was my dream to have Johnny Paycheck's "Take This Job and Shove It" played!! hysterical.gif That would have curled the VP's hair!! wacko.gif

guitar.gif Thanks for the link DSTM, I've got it saved. I love all kinds of music, classical to heavy metal and everything in between but I was raised around alot of country music and still enjoy a good old beer drinkin' , heart wrenchin' cryin' song that only country music can provide!! Anymore links you get to good ones pass along. grinner.gif

By the way, a question for anyone who cares to add to this thread, Who do you think is the all time best Country Music Singer???

Don't be shy, open your cotton pickin' mouths y'all!!
