So where's the 3.25+/ gal gasoline we had last year. (I'm not complaining but wondering)
The average national price of a gallon of gas inched higher by 0.1 cent overnight to $2.815, according to AAA

Hmmm,

Check the prices of gasoline, and diesel fuel outside the USA today?

We pay much less in the USA, and have so for many decades. (Extra taxing aside - tho' some countries tax higher?)

I remember the first USA "gas crunch". When those in the USA were carping about high prices and waiting in line, I was rationed to fuel use and paying the equivalent of 2 & 1/2 of the USA prices.

What happened to $0.23 USD a gallon fuel of the early '60's?

It's an enigma?

Inflation has to be accounted in to those old stories of when gas was 5 cents a gallon(they only made 5 cents a hour but still gas was ONLY 5 cents a gallon)

That refinery that returned back on line, maybe thats the reason. It was said gas is even on its way down.

Oh I know we pay less and I remember last summer someone from England told me they were paying almost 2 a litre when we (USA) were at 3+ a gallon. Another in Norway I think were near 3 /litre.
I'm griping about all the stories we are told to justify it. Such as...

Despite Wednesday's jump, oil is still well below inflation-adjusted highs hit in early 1980. Depending on the adjustment, a $38 barrel of oil in 1980 would be worth $96 to $101 or more today. --- Ohhhhh so we're lucky it's soooo cheap, thank you.

I personally feel it wiil come down a lot and soon as OPEC says they are going to increase producted even tho' they now have a surplus.

I disagree - fuels in USA will drastically climb in the next twelve months.

Be prepared to spend much more on all products.

Interesting, I know they want to keep it running up. There's a tremendous surplus of Ethanol in Brazil.

CGM3?

I cannot find any reference to 5 cent a gallon gasoline going back on the web to 1923.

15.4 cents

Oil hit $80 back in the 80s. http://www.manicore.com/anglais/documentat.../oil_price.html

(What cost $80 in 1981 would cost $188.73 in 2006.) http://www.westegg.com/inflation/

This may seem like a dumb question about the price per barrel of oil, but how does one check this daily? I tried looking on Google Finance. What do you search for? "Oil" yields companies.

The simplest way is bookmark Bloomberg . Scroll down on the right to COMMODITY FUTURES. Oil and gold are almost always listed. If not or for more just click on the COMMODITY FUTURES and a list of commodities will come up.

Crude hit 86.17 /bbl today at the close at 2:30 EDT on NY mercantile exchange. The first time it ever passed 86.00.
Based on fears the Turks may attack bases in Iraq.
QUOTE
Today's intraday high passed the previous all-time inflation-adjusted record reached in 1981 when Iran cut oil exports. The cost of oil used by U.S. refiners averaged $37.48 a barrel in March 1981, according to the Energy Department, or $84.73 in today's dollars.
