I've posted a link to the Unity08 Website in another thread.
I'm curious if anyone checked out their site. From their "What we believe" section: QUOTE Unity08 believes that neither of today’s major parties reflects the aspirations, fears or will of the majority of Americans. Both have polarized and alienated the people. Both are unduly influenced by single-issue groups. Both are excessively dominated by money I'm just curious - Do you agree with what they believe? Do you think that they will have any influence in the 2008 election? I've joined, since it is free, and am watching it with interest since I fullly agree with their statement above. I don't know if they'll have any influence, though, although they may simply based on the number of members they have as more people join. The current system certainly will not change if the people in it don't know how many of us are not pleased, that's for sure. I am a strong supporter of Unity08. I believe that our current political parties have it so infused in our brains that they are the ONLY way to believe that it has become unhealthy. I also think neither represents the majority of America.

The major political parties in the US do reflect the majority's views. That is the whole problem.

The major political parties in the US do reflect the majority's views. That is the whole problem. Z That is exactly one of the points that Unity08 is addressing. I'm not saying for sure that they are going to solve it. One of the first points necessary in fixing something is identifying what is broken and it at least looks like they want to address these problems rather than ignore them in the manner the two main parties have been doing for a long time. -------------------- |

The major political parties in the US do reflect the majority's views. That is the whole problem. Z How is "reflecting the views of the majority" a problem? I suppose majority rule could be replaced by crackhead rule. Don't think it'd work out very well, though. Then again, I've known a crackhead or two that made more sense than most politicians. -------------------- Lib. Free or Die

Oops -
I read is as "do not reflect..." My bad. So, I meant the following as a response to "The major political parties in the US do not reflect the majority's views." That is exactly one of the points that Unity08 is addressing. I'm not saying for sure that they are going to solve it. One of the first points necessary in fixing something is identifying what is broken and it at least looks like they want to address these problems rather than ignore them in the manner the two main parties have been doing for a long time. Neither the Democrats nor the Republicans represent the majority of anything other than the majority of the minority. -------------------- |

One of the major problems is people's lack of understanding of how our system works. First, the United States has never been and hopefully will never be, a Democracy. Real Democracy is poison to a culture's ability to grow and flourish. Second, the Constitutional Republic that this country started as has been subsumed. It has devolved into a Plutocracy - government of the rich, by the rich, and for the rich. The constitution is now no more than an old document collecting dust in a museum. The principles of that document have fallen by the wayside. So this poses the question - can the principles of the United States Constitution, and government by those principles, be restored, or have we allowed our society to degenerate to the point that nothing can stop it's downward spiral to eventual doom.
I'd bet on the spiral, myself. -------------------- Lib. Free or Die
