Do you see a lot of movies in theaters? Or do you wait and save money and rent/buy them new or used when they come out?

Personally we go to see a few movies. Just ones we Really want to see.

Such as Spideman movies, Transformers and (YES!!) Pirate of the Caribbean movies(number 3 was excellent!)

We buy the others we want to see used like on ebay, if we like them we keep them if not we resell them.

I have also rented with those online movie rentals such as netflix and blockbuster(thanks for the free trials!)

I'd say I go to the theater about 10 times a year.
I miss the really big screen that used to be every where when I was a kid. There's still a few in Manhattan, but not like it used to be.
I really miss the Drive In

Ever been to a IMAX theater?

Screen 5 stories high and as wide as a pro basketball court.

Imax is the ultimate, well maybe Imax 3D. Saw Deep Sea 3D in NYC at Sony Imax it was fantastic. And what a beautiful theater too.

Hehe, to be exact. I saw like 2 movies last year in cinemas. Its too expensive and the american "blockbusters" are getting more and more crappy.
Our american friends are running out of ideas. I find myself watching more and more "alternative" movies (sidestream) movies than the crap coming from the US these days. I have two vouchers for free movies lying around here for about 3 months now laugh.gif .

Also, I prefer to watch them in English, so there s not that many friends who d go along with me unsure.gif and not that many theathres offering original movies.
Thence, I prefer buying them on DVD and watch em then. However, I have not watched DVD in a long time.

Last movie I saw in the theater was "The DaVinci Code" and I had free tickets. Before that it was DOOM. I go only when I feel the movie validates me paying $30 to see it once (ie Resident Evil: Extinction I will go see)

The last time I was in a theatre was certainly three years ago, and the movie was not so memorable that I can definitely give its title. As a pleasant way to pass the time, I prefer waiting until a copy goes on sale and viewing it at home.

Ever seen the Lord of the Rings movies? Can anyone say 3 hours or more each?

IMAX is great; no argument here.

But, the total immersiveness of a good planetarium show can give some people vertigo and may be as close as we can get to realism using projectors and screens.

I used to see movies in the theaters all the time. However, I rarely get to the cineplex nowadays...I've seen Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End and Rush Hour 3 this year, but that's all. Its not that there are no interesting movies to see...its just that the novelty of the movie theater has run its course for me.

Ahh come on who does not enjoy

Sticky floors

Dirty seats

Rude movie employees

Obnoxious people

Cell phones going on in the middle of the movie

People who pick up that call and talk to the person during the movie

Expensive popcorn and drinks

Expensive tickets after 6 or 7 pm

Even with all its bad parts going to the movies is great fun.

I don't go to the theatre a lot but recently went to the first screenings of Die Hard 4 and The Bourne Ultimatum. The 10.30am screening of TBU was shared with 8 other people. LOL. Our local Hoyts has about 6 bigscreen theatres with large comfortable seats and full leg room. Very nice and as an oldie, it only costs me NZ$7 - 8.

I really enjoyed those 2 movies and zapped them on to my hard drive to watch again as soon as I got home. Tut Tut. As .avi's, they were down in about 21 hours.

For some reason, I never got to see Mr & Mrs Smith so am watching a hired DVD of that right now.
