Most people will say Pele. I say the greatest is the flawed genius Diego Maradona.

The two sides of Maradona can be remembered best from the 1986 word cup match against England. The infamous 'Hand of God' goal, coupled with arguably the greatest goal ever scored.

Cheating goal.

Great goal.

I'm not that much of a soccer fan, but I would assume the same problem exists when determining the "greatest player" as in other sports - different eras and different era styles of play make it difficult to compare certain players.

Pele, for example, may have been the greatest player of his era, but the style of play may now make a different type player appear better on the field today.

Maradona then, may be the best player of the modern era, and at least you can enjoy watching him now.

I know you think you understand what you thought I said,
but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant!

It's true that it's difficult to compare players from a different era, but can still be enjoyable. Well, if you like the sport of the players that is.

I would enjoy watching Maradona now, but he retired in 1997.

At the moment the greatest attacking midfielder is(baulks)christiano ronaldo sad.gif

The greatest striker is fernado torres.

The best midfielder is steven gerrard.

The best defender Is between carragher, ferdinand and terry.

The best keeper is probably cassillas(although there are lots of people pushing him).

The best player of all time is probably (baulks) george best.

I would say Man U's greatest ever player is Eric Cantona.

Liverpools I would say Kenny Dalglish.

A quick joke mz30 will have heard before.

Where would you find Everton FC's website?

In there trophy cabinet.

3. Terry Cooper...................England
4. Garrincha........................Brazil
5. Franz Beckenbaeur ©.....West Germany
6. Carlos Alberto..................Brazil

Up here in Scotland we have the benefit of not having the English media hype surrounding football. (No, the Premier League is not the best in the World)

Baulk no more, kaka is better than Ronaldo.

QUOTE

Ill let you have that one, because it changes from season to season. But if he played regularly Kris Boyd is the man. (Wake up Walter Smith)

QUOTE

Are you a Pool fan?

QUOTE

And an England fan hysterical.gif Nesta makes them look silly. As does Carlos Cuellar, even when he has to carry Grandpa Wier.

Cant disagree. Taking over the No1 jersey at the greatest club in the World aged 18 speaks volumes.

Nope, defenitly Pele.

Greatest wing back ever, Bobby Carlos. Every time R.Madrid played Man U in the Champions league, it was highly amusing to watch him run circles round Englands "super-hyped super star" forcing the right winger into the right back positon all evening, every time. thumbup.gif
