Egad, I don't know how anyone else feels about this but take about taking things too far!

Children learn things in school, or at least surely they should.

Not working equals crumby marks, or worse, failing the Grade.
Not everyone is loved by everyone in school - or the 'real' world' either.

Swedish school cites discrimination in seizing birthday party invitations

STOCKHOLM, Sweden - Officials at a school in Sweden have confiscated birthday invitations handed out in class by an eight-year-old boy.

The reason: they see it as a matter of discrimination.

A Swedish newspaper says the school in Lund, southern Sweden, seized the invitations because the boy failed to invited two boys because they were not his friends.

The newspaper Sydsvenskan quotes officials as saying they had a duty to prevent discrimination.

The newspaper did not identify the boy or his family, but says his father has filed a complaint with the parliamentary ombudsman"

It's "Political Correctness" gone wild, Mara.

For Petes' and the rest of us sake, we've got to stop letting the extremists run the asylum, in my opinion.

It wasn't brought up as discrimination Mara but I have heard of pretty much the same thing happening here. It's usually put by the teachers that if all students in the class are not being invited the invitations shouldn't be brought and passed out in school. This may well help ward off hurt feelings among the kids not invited but "discrimination"??? Good Grief!!
Personally I think the governments have gone too far overboard in running our lives for us. I realize there have to be rules to follow and laws that must be obeyed but they are more and more frequently sticking their noses into what should only be our personal business.

I agree with them in a way but at the end of the day,its like inviting your friends from work to your wedding, but not the people you dislike, and your boss telling you that you can't do it blink.gif

I agree in a way also. Invitations should not be passed in class because it can hurt peoples feelings if they aren't invited. Then it leads to more dramas and chaos. At my school we are only allowed to hand out invites before & after school, recess and lunch. Its a lot more fair.

But banning them from school altogether is an outrage.

More and more, schools seem bent on building a protective wall around children, from banning play because someone might get hurt, to Mara's example. Yet once they get into the world, this false wall crumbles, but the mental attitude the schools have taught children about risk and danger do not.
Our modern educational institutions fail to educate, and they fail to adequately prepare children for living in the world. We are carrying our child-centered world too far, and breeding a generation of herd animals expecting "someone" to protect them from everything. Bill Gates was right.
