I was thinking one day while we were driving back to the city from our holiday - what really happens when I die? Do we really just go up to heaven? So with this, I headed towards the scientific side of things. I worked out that when you die you body basically shuts off - you hearing, sight, smell, taste and feel/touch, all dissapear, that's where I realized that without those five elements there is nothing! And when you die, those elements are gone so therefore there is nothing - pitch black - no mind.
In short when you die, it all turns into nothing. Yes it seems unreal but it does seem scientifically possible! But of course, we don't know this for sure and I have a belief that I will go to heaven which I am hoping that going to heaven is what really happens but it's hard to tear your-self apart from the scientific facts of this at the same time. What do you think - would you agree? This post has been edited by david28: Jun 6 2008, 11:20 PM |

Ecclesiastes 9:5(New International Version)
For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing; they have no further reward, and even the memory of them is forgotten. You are correct. When we die, we cease to exist. Religion as made by man when he first realised that he would die is an unlikely scenario for that reason alone and the fact it is entirely man made. It is just as likely that Thor wields his mighty hammer above us than anything else. Indeed nothing is the most likely fate that awaits us.
Time could be one saviour, time does not do what it should, it should be moving in all directions. When you die time stops as we know it, moving in that one direction. It has been proven there are at least 11 unknown dimensions, we will never know what they are and why time does not 'behave'. Another suggested theorum has a lot to do with the amount of dark matter. Why? Because if the Universe settles and ceases expansion, does not implode and remains stable, then infinity occurs in time. Anything can happen and the atoms and condition that made the first life on earth would reoccur in the exact, (billion upon billion upon billion a billion times over chances to one), same form, this would happen for certain as infinity rules this and it would also happen an infinite number of times. It is though, unlikely that the Universe will stabilize, unfortunately. This could, it has been argued, also occur should our Universe be continually big banging and imploding, the problem with this is that it means it has happened infinitely before, unlike the above scenario. If it has, we have no memory of it and thus it would be useless as sentinel being is only achieved through memory. Memory is unlikely to be achieved with the stable Universe theory also. Should the Universe expand for ever all bets are off and nothing rules, unless the parallel Universe theory is considered, but the paradoxical questions raised with this theory are many. It is rather a weak and unlikely theory anyhow, and as far as reincarnating goes, ridiculous. Then there is creator. The vastness of space, the luck of being on a planet with a moon that is just the right size to pull the tides etc., being in awe of the beauty of nature, a butterfly's wing etc., all such things smack of creator. A creator, (not, I say not, in the religous sense), is not impossible, but improbable and does not necessarily mean life-after etc. Which brings us back to the nothing bit. Nothing, by the way, is not pitch blackness, nothingness is not black, it is nothing and is incomprehensible to us and unfortunately is the most likely outcome once we've popped our clogs.......nothing.......nothing.......nothing........sleep well. -------------------- Snana, the friendly Sioux. |

I agree with whoever said that whatever happens to us will be somewhat clear when it does.

Having been clinically dead for 10 minutes then in a coma for a month, all I will say is there is a God. You can draw your own conclusions

Well yeah I basically meant nothing - when you die it is like going to sleep, you don't remember it and time appears to have gone past instantly - this is what probably happens when you die and you never wake up sort of thing (yeah you have probably heard of that). I guess we sort of worked out what happens when you die but the thing still not really worked out is what happens after because within a second whilst your dead - time would have gone past infinite! You probably didn't understand what I was trying to say in the above paragraph as I just couldn't seem to explain it properly Well that's my theory anyway. |
