Sorry if there is already a forum like this (I am a little tired tongue.gif ), but would it be worth having a forum that is basically like The Speak Easy at BC?

How would Thoughtvent, benefit from a Speak Easy Forum? David.
Personally,I think most Topics are allready covered, and what aren't, can go into the 'Off Topic Forum'.
If a member posts a new Topic, that is not within the Thoughtvent Rules, then we Delete the Topic. thumbup2.gif

I always considered the entire TV forum an expansion of BC's speakeasy but with organised topics. Most of subjects in BC's threads's subjects are replicated in topics here, it seems to me.

I'm new here, and my impression is that ThoughtVent would benefit by being the only social area of Bleeping Computer. When I first read about ThoughtVent, I understood that to be the intention, but having two social areas, one directly in BC and one here, can only divide the enthusiasm, because everyone's time is limited and the BC area is simply more conveniently reachable. If people who clicked on SpeakEasy or on one of the other threads in that part of BC were either redirected here, or were given a set of instructions to get here, then this forum would be more accessible to all the members at BC. It would then provide that defined social area which I think it was originally intended to be. I don't know what is best, but the entries at BC seem to be more active simply due to the volume of users at BC.

I feel this suggestion may have some merit. Very much like the Security Updates link to CoU.

I believe somewhere we may have discussed this before.

I'm somewhat in agreement that re-directing much of the "speakeasy" type topics from BC to here would make sense.

Primarily since it would limit some of the unfortunate friction that sometimes happens between members on BC when discussing non-computer related topics. That friction may impact postings in the Support Forums, unfortunately. It also may impact members on BC who are solely there for computer related purposes and would rather not have to deal with "discouraging words" on that "range".

Also, re-directing the conversations here would increase the postings here. That sounds good to me.

However, maybe this idea doesn't fit with Grinler's concept of the two boards?

Dunno.

well, I only noticed that when people post here, their threads are moved over there,
so it seems like the reverse could work as well.
There's no doubt that where there are bright minds, there is also diversity of interests

Zllio,

Posts or threads are not moved from the BC to the TV or vice versa.
At times a member may re post something from the BC on the TV, etc.

The TV is a logical extension of a couple BC forums, but does not replace them (YET).

You'll note there is an announcement of the TV site on the BC.
At times some members/staff stream a TV link signature also on various sites.

Hi Conundrum,

Under the subforum Computer Help it says Redirected Hits 460 (which I for some reason thought of as posts - sorry). When I click on that subforum, I'm redirected to BC. Why couldn't that be done in reverse, that people who click on SpeakEasy or some other non-computer subforum be directed here?

Zllio

It was discussed at one time.

We'll take it under advisement for discussion again.
