Maybe I just don't get it, but to slaughter one speices to save another hardly seems like the proper answer.
Story Here Personally I'd rather have the kangaroos over the lizards and bugs, but I'm sure they serve a purpose too. I understand an overpopulation problem like, the deer here, but isn't there a better use of the kangaroo say for some sort of food product rather than to just to put them to sleep. To any of our Aussie friends here isn't there some kind of "Roo season" (Similar to our deer season) that could be put into place, that way people may benefit from them. -------------------- 'No arsenal, no weapon in the arsenals of the world, is so formidable as the will and moral courage of free men and women.'

That's a good idea, Vicki - "relocate" those Kangaroos.

As an animal lover,I am disgusted at what is happening.
I'll keep the roos here,BS,and send all snakes and lizards over to you, that they supposedly want to protect. See how they taste. http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5inZ7Mqa...CkB0WwD90P7NBG0 -------------------- ![]() I Search for the Sjogren's Foundation,Who will you search for? The real truth is a lot of government officials live in and around Canberra. At Dusk, they come out to feed and many expensive cars are deing damaged when they hit them.During the day the mainly lie down under trees and are no problem.
I was a Proffessional Roo Shooter years ago, and understand these animals well. The sad Part is this time of the year, many have babies hidden in their pouches, which is why I believe they should be relocated. They are so cute, and are not predators. -------------------- ![]() I Search for the Sjogren's Foundation,Who will you search for? Thats just wrong. killing before and during mating season is fine by me but during the raising season is wrong. Cute is just another word for tasty in my book btw. lol (note: I would not kill a roo) -------------------- ![]() Speak softly and carry a weighted baseball bat. Then people have to listen to you. |

Hey DSTM, I have tasted your kangaroo meat, and it's not bad.
As well I have eaten many spiders, lizards, and snakes. They all have been pretty good in my pot, but to kill off one species in order to protect another; "isn't that what Hitler was trying to do in WW2?" Either way, it just isn't right now is it? |

This is a case of 'fluffy bunny' jumping in before common sense. Whilst the Eastern Grey Kangaroo Macropus giganteus enjoys a healthy population of several millions, the creatures endangered have tiny populations.
The Grassland Earless Dragon Lizard Tympano cryptis is barely holding on, the Striped Legless Lizard which was once abundant is also struggling. Whilst the Golden Sun Moth population is healthy in the five remaining loctions it remains, it also is facing the most heinious crime man can bestow upon fellow living creatures, extinction. There are other creatures affected, none of them are fluffy either, but are just as deserving of protection from total obliteration as Pandas, Andean Condors or any other rare fluffy/feathered creature. This should be so whether man caused the problem or nay, it is his duty to protect species survival where his hand previously intervened. If this includes culling a prolific species, so it should be. http://www.tams.act.gov.au/live/environmen...o_culling_issue This post has been edited by The Colonel: Jun 22 2008, 04:05 PM -------------------- Snana, the friendly Sioux. |

Sorry to disagree colonel, but we the human race wipe out more species of animal than any kangaroo's could,if the endangered creature have tiny populations why not re-locate them to a safer enviroment?after all while kangaroos may have a healthy population now, who knows what they will be like in a decade, especially after a mass culling? -------------------- god my head hurts

Yes, understand your point.
I do totally agree that relocation would be a good option, cost is probably a factor in the Australian authorities decision. -------------------- Snana, the friendly Sioux. |
