Gonna end up over 30,000. Damn that area of the world is getting hammered right now and that picture of the kid trying to get his mom out is absolutely heartbreaking.

Well, enough with that mess, didn't you just absolutely love Jenna's dress? thumbup2.gif

The sorrow and grief they are suffering, right now, is terrible.
I think, with the aid of the media,we lose track of the big picture.
I personally care more for my fellow man, than what the high end of town is doing.
But Hey,Thats just me.!!!!

Not to Hi-jack this thread, but the death toll and missing in Myanmar (Burma) is in the hundreds of thousands now after the cyclone there.

We'll probably never know the real losses in either country because of the suppression of information out of either country.

Agreed.

A terrible tragedy is exacerbated by a ruthless government which is hampering world-wide aid.

This is another terrible event as was the Cyclones of Burma. It seems to me that that area of the world has been becoming more troubled with such natural disasters sine the 2004 Indonesian earthquake and giant tsunami.

At least the Chinese Government seems concerned about their people, whereas the Myanmar Generals are syphoning off approximatly 80% of the relief sent to the region for themselves.

There is another cyclone (the level of a tropical depression in the US) approching the region today. They believe it will drop another foot of rain on the people already displaced and damaged by the first cyclone.

China never intended for all the information we have recieved about the quake to get out. The chinese government has strict control over what people recieve via internet but they didn't think to stop what goes out. The people of china clued in the world about how bad it had gotten, not he government.

I'm sure they would have liked to have tried to sweep it under the rug like Burma is attempting. But in this world after the advent of computers and technology there is no way governments can hide a disaster on any scale.

Quake reveals holes in the great Firewall of China

I Do think there is something to the animals being "in tune" with nature. My birds were acting wierd for about 2 days before the earthquake hit Illinois.

Seems the most vulnerable are always sold out by greedy men, with the schools not being built properly. Builders the world over skimp to save costs, but those poor Chinese youngsters had no chance. Let us hope the lakes and dams hold.
