Before I continue I would like to say sorry to the mods if you think I posted this in the wrong place, I didnt really know what category to put it in.
Who thinks alot of people have forgotten what ANZAC day really means? I sure do This morning I rolled out of bed at 4.30 am to get ready for work which really upset me because I missed out on watching the ANZAC day march with my Nan & Pop. That might not seem like a big deal to those of you who have a complete disreguard for this day of rememberance but its a big deal to me. Also a few of my friends wondered why everything wa shut till 1 in the afternoon. They didn't even know that ANZAC day was today! Do others see this my way? Do others feel like people just used this day to get trashed and have a day off work(well.. for those who got the day off >.>)? I'm not saying people can't celebrate ANZAC day, I'm all for that. I'm just saying people who think ANZAC day is just a day off and a chance to get trashed need a wake up call. Because without the ANZAC's, they might not have had the chance to enjoy all the luxuries we have today. I appreciate any imput on this subject. Well, it is no different here in the US during Memorial Day, which is our ANZAC day, if that is any consolation to anyone. I think a part of the problem is that too many people are simply ignorant about the terrible suffering and great sacrifices of many people during the world wars (I would doubt if half of either population could even come close to the dates of either WW, for example). Ignorant of the past, and dwelling only in the moment of today and tomorrow, and not having personally lived through the hard times, it is no wonder that many considered the day as JUST a day off and hooray-it's -time -for -a -picnic -and -some-jolly-cool- wine -punch1

Thanks Z I'm glad someone else see's my point of view
People need to realise that once all the war vetrins (sorry I'm not sure how to spell it) are gone, its up to us to carry out their legacy. But the sad thing is I think by the year 2025 we will only have a handful of peopel who know what WWI and WWII was -------------------- Mind Over Matter: I Don't Mind, And You Don't Matter

As I remember, there are only a handful of WW1 Veterans left, and there is some urgency here to document as much as possible the experiences of those who served in WW2 before they also disappear as completely.

My pop's grandfather fought in WWI and he has his journals from the war and some journals he wrote after war. I had a read of them they're very touching. Pop also has his fathers journals from WWII.
I've met a few veteran's and they've actually told me about their time at war. I've written it down and kept it somewhere as when I have children I really want to educate them on WWI and WWII and hope to god they don't grow up to be inconsiderate and selfish and forget about their ancestors legacy. -------------------- Mind Over Matter: I Don't Mind, And You Don't Matter

Alot of people would just as soon forget about all that, being far removed from it after sixty plus years. I am glad that there are those as young as yourself that feel the way you do. Gives me hope for the future generations. God Bless -------------------- "Not everything that counts can be counted, and not everything that can be counted counts." Having family members that served in WWII,Korea,Vietnam and now a nephew in Iraq the impact of Memorial Day doesn't escape me and I too think it's too bad that so many seem to forget what Memorial Day is actually for.
