Jesus' used the day of his last passover on Earth to institute a covenant/contract with his followers. Then later on in that day, he was killed by the very descendants the people God delivered in 1513 B.C.E.

Nissan 14th (Exodus 12:6) is a day of celebration for sure. But the Passover has nothing to do with the meaning of this great event with the exception that this day of salvation for the Jews shares the same date as the day of Salvation for All Mankind.

I do believe that this post was meant as an acknowledgement of a celebration practiced by those of the Jewish faith and meant with the utmost sincerity and respect. Do those that are Christians not wish each other a Merry Christmas, celebrating the birth of Christ and honor Easter as the day of his rising from the dead CD? I think it's wonderful that C acknowledges those that celebrate a holiday practiced by people of a another faith.
By the way, and correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the death of Christ planned by God as the final sacrifice for the salvation of man? If not there would have been no reason for him to die. And what does it matter who all took place in bringing this about? Our salvation has been assured by the death of Christ and our belief in him as the only Son of God and our asking for forgiveness for our sins in all sincerity, we who are too weak to live a perfect life in the way that Christ did?

I have the utmost respect for those who loyally serve God. Able, Enoch, Noah and Abraham for example. My respect dwindles for individuals who fain to worship the True God yet reject his son, as did the Pharisees of Jesus day.

The whole purpose or remembering mistakes is so that one does not commit them again. For the failure of the Jewish leaders in recognizing the Messiah when he arrived, the Physical Nation of Israel was abandoned by God. This became evident when God stopped protecting the nation and allowed the Romans to destroy Jerusalem and the Temple in 70 C.E.

The faith of Noah, the repentance of King David and the fall of King Saul. All these serve as reminders that the small can become great and that the great can fall. All that matters in the end is Loyalty. So "what does it matter who all took place in bringing this about?".

The ultimate proof that "once saved" does not mean "always saved".

But not everyone learns from the mistakes of others.

My point when I said "what does it matter who all took place in bringing this about" was to state that Christ's death was pre-ordained and necessary for God's plan concerning our salvation regardless of who had a hand in bringing it about. I did not say that those involved were not punished or chastised by God or that they were right in not recognizing the true Messiah. You are correct, not everyone learns from the mistakes of others but those who do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat it and I would think to be punished accordingly and no "once saved" doesn't mean "always saved". If one makes no effort to build a personal relationship with God on a continuing basis and makes no effort to correct their sinful ways then they do indeed put there eternal salvation at risk. However, how many times is it that we are supposed to forgive someone as stated in the Bible? Is there then a limit on the number of times that God can or will forgive someone? If we were not by nature sinful and unworthy of eternal life in God's Kingdom then there would have been no reason for the sacrifice of Christ for our sins. It is only through him that we will come to the Father and will have life eternal in his Kingdom.
With that being said, my original intent was and is to point out that I believe the intent of this thread was to take into consideration and acknowledge those of the Jewish faith and the holiday of Passover which is celebrated by them in thanks to God for their lives being spared and their freedom from Eygpt. Like it or not they do have the right to practice their religion and celebrate their holidays just as we all have and should be able to be wished well without judgement as to the right or wrong of it by other members.
IMO I think any further discussion of the nature that has taken place here should be taken up in another of the religious threads or a new topic opened to address it. It seems that we have taken over a topic that should never have been delved into except to wish others well in thier celebration.
