QUOTE SCIENTISTS have discovered that the builder of the Titanic struggled for years to obtain enough rivets and riveters and ultimately settled on faulty materials that doomed the ship, which sank 96 years ago yesterday and took with it more than 1500 passengers.

I have seen several articles indicating that the severe cold of the northern waters caused the defective rivets to exacerbate the results of scraping against the iceberg. As with most events of this magnitude, there was not one single cause, but a whole cluster that contributed to the outcome.

I am very interested in the Titanic (I have been for a while. About 7 years) There are many new theories going around on how it actually sank. One of them being the cheap lower-grade rivets were a big contribution to the sinking, which were used in the construction in the three ships - Britannic, Olympic and the Titanic. Also, there is a new theory on how it actually split in two parts. It is believed that the ship gave in at around 40 degree angle but a new theory explains how it may have started breaking up at around 10degrees which somehow contributed to a faster sinking. There are many theories about the Titanic's sinking, just take a look in Google
