Yes those are neat. I carry a pocket pc. Its really a pda/cell phone. Its the ppc6700 for anyone who wants to look it up. Its the older version of the new MOGUL which is basically the same with a new style and the new Windows mobile 6. Its small and does a lot. I mean it wont do "All" a mini laptop will like read cd's and dvd's but thats about it. Oh and no flash support as of yet.
These new mini laptops are so cool. I'd love to have one but don't want to pay the price. -------------------- "The fool hath said in his heart, 'There is no God'" (Psalm 14:1; 53:1)

If the laptops are getting that small then burning media will likely be downsizing too? Or are these models going to exist basically as business add-ons? Just thought I would ask experienced users.

Tina to answer your question. 1 inch hard drives (thats right 1 measly inch or 2.5 cm, BTW the average desktop PC's HardDrive is 3.5 x approx 6 x 1/2 inches and a laptop's is 2 x 3.5 x 1/4 inches in size (WxLxH)) is capable of storing a Windows Vista install currently. Half sized CD-R's have been out for ages (but they only store half of a regular CD-R's data) and MiniDVD's are being used in camcorders the world over as we speak. But to top all of them is the new Micro-thumb drives Sony has introduced at 4GB capacity (about the size of a regular hard drive for a computer in 1998) and its no bigger than your thumb (actually i think its smaller).
But most of these MicroPC's dont have drives in them at all and require USB attachment drives. IMO thats fine just use USB thumb drives like the Sony's i mentioned for removable media. its not like they wont boot from the USB slot (They would have to to install an OS anyways) -------------------- ![]() Speak softly and carry a weighted baseball bat. Thx for the detailed info, I know about the camcorders as I opted for the Panasonic 3 CCD mini dv with the tape instead of the HD model. I have been doing amateur video for years now and simply like the mini dv over the HD and thought that I better buy one before I have no choice.
It simply is my comfort zone and i really don't like the family growing years on a HD that might go corrupt on me. I likely will store the mini dv's on a HD but will have the original tape and the cd copies that I send out as gifts for birthdays, Christmas etc. Everyone wants to see the family growing up as with the price of everything now overseas holidays are virtually impossible for a family. Plus the better half hates to travel via planes, always has. Have a great day!!! |
