Forget global warming: Welcome to the new Ice Age
Ok, to be fair from the article: QUOTE OK, so one winter does not a climate make. It would be premature to claim an Ice Age is looming just because we have had one of our most brutal winters in decades. But if environmentalists and environment reporters can run around shrieking about the manmade destruction of the natural order every time a robin shows up on Georgian Bay two weeks early, then it is at least fair game to use this winter's weather stories to wonder whether the alarmist are being a tad premature. Back in September, when Chicken Little was yelling "The ice is melting, the ice is melting!". Uh, - QUOTE And remember the Arctic Sea ice? The ice we were told so hysterically last fall had melted to its "lowest levels on record? Never mind that those records only date back as far as 1972 and that there is anthropological and geological evidence of much greater melts in the past. The ice is back. Gilles Langis, a senior forecaster with the Canadian Ice Service in Ottawa, says the Arctic winter has been so severe the ice has not only recovered, it is actually 10 to 20 cm thicker in many places than at this time last year. Just thought I'd share. -------------------- |

Verly interesting John. I always thought the biggest ice age is and for some time had been when all of the Floridians turn their air conditioners on year round and the coils all freeze up in protest!!

I never liked that fake Al Gore or his silly global warming idea.

I caught a segment on Bill O'Reilly, where they were surmising that the asteroid was not the only thing that killed off the dinosaurs, but It was also Global Warming...?
Ok, this can't really be proved one way or another, but If there had been a "Global Warming" event in the past that killed off life - then by reasoning and deduction that would make GW cyclical! Right? To see Video go to video section in middle of page. This GW thing has compleatly gotten out of hand. Alaska town sues oil and power co's over Global Warming Gas is already estimated to be up to 4.00 a gallon before summer is over, Are stupid lawsuits going be the death of this country? -------------------- 'No arsenal, no weapon in the arsenals of the world, is so formidable as the will and moral courage of free men and women.'

Where's Al Gore during all of this? You would think he would be all over the media talking about how wonderful all of this is.
He's probably busy though. Polishing that Oscar and laughing all the way to the bank. -------------------- The Constitution was not intended to limit the power of the people. It was intended to limit the power of the government.

I see no contradiction in the gradual rise in sea temperatures causing glaciers and snowcaps to melt, and an unusually cooler and snowier Winter season this year. I understand that scientists have indicated that we will begin to see more such "swings" in the weather as a result of climate change, including an increase in major storms and hurricanes.

I have a solution to this particular inconvenient truth!
Maybe, just maybe, we should dramatically increase our CO2 admissions...and then, something I'll call "The Greenhouse Effect' would then make the world begin to heat up...and then, no more Ice Age! Nobel Prize, here I come! |

Yes, Z, as part of the normal cycle of cooling and warming though - not because of some man-made problem.
Also, more and more scientists are matching up some of these events to solar activity. Less than .038% of the Earth's atmosphere is Carbon Dioxide (source - Wikipedia - Earth's Atmosphere) and anthropogenic (man caused) CO2 emissions may be only 4% of that. There are a lot of scientists - all the facts are not in, all the scientists do not agree, the debate continues - that are not in agreement that such a small amount is making enough difference to cause warming. Also, since what facts we do have show that the tempertaure rises or falls first, and then sometime after that the CO2 levels rise or fall accordingly, it appears that temperature drives CO2 levels, not the other way around. Heck, do a Google search - some notable scientists are even beginning to call "Global Warming" a hoax. I'm sure Al Gore is already working on his speech: [Al Gore]Thanks to my efforts, the disasterous effect of Global Warming have been stopped.[/Al Gore] -------------------- |

Whether Global Warming is a fact or not an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Would it kill us all to try and straighten out the ecological mess we've put this world in? I don't think so.
How often do the majority of people take out their trash, clean their house, was there car etc.? They don't want all of that dirt hanging around, not to mention the cruddy smells a that come from a full and dirty trash can in the house so why do these same people scream when something is said about cleaning up the planet and maybe, just maybe making it a better envirornment for all of us to live in? I often wonder how blue was the sky or how green the folage before all of the air polution was set free in the world to affect not only the plant life and animals but our health as well. Global warming? Possibly but clean this "house" up, definitly!! -------------------- Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.~~

Which is why all the billions of dollars going into Global Warming fighting should go into other enviornmental concerns. I totally agree with you, and it would be much easier to clean up this "house" if all our cleaning supplies were concentrated on cleaning up the real messes!

Given what we do know, and see all around us, some things are obvious:
1. CO2 emissions continue to increase as the industrial population expands. Mainland China, for example, is completing one coal-burning electrical station each week. This has been going on since Dickens deplored the "satanic mills" spewing clouds of smoke in Victorian England, and is confirmed moreover, by ice core samples from both poles. 2. Natural resources are limited, and are being depleted also at a increasing rate; at the same time, we do not yet have the developed technology to replace these with renewable resources, despite some attempts at recycling. 3. Pollution of all kinds also continues to increase; landfills are not getting smaller, and lack of conservation fills our streets with litter and our lakes and streams with floating trash. These phenomena and their causes are unique to recent history, and are becoming not just the problem for a few industrialised nations, but now have global implications. Surely this should give everyone pause for concern. Z -------------------- Whereof one cannot speak, thereof one should be silent.

We should do as others have suggested here and take care of the Planet - not because someone "scares" us into us but because we are be good stewarts of this land we were given.
The only thing positive I can say about Al Gore and his "warning" is that, he at least has people thinking about the planet again, and not just raping her. -------------------- 'No arsenal, no weapon in the arsenals of the world, is so formidable as the will and moral courage of free men and women.'

And today, being leap year, we have an extra day to add to the world's pollution!

We should do as others have suggested here and take care of the Planet - not because someone "scares" us into us but because we are be good stewarts of this land we were given. Make no mistake, I fully agree with that. However.... QUOTE The only thing positive I can say about Al Gore and his "warning" is that, he at least has people thinking about the planet again, and not just raping her. Which is why all the billions of dollars going into Global Warming fighting should go into other enviornmental concerns. I totally agree with you, and it would be much easier to clean up this "house" if all our cleaning supplies were concentrated on cleaning up the real messes! That's where the separate, political side of the debate is. He has people thinking about the planet primarily in support of his cause which is closely tied to his financial enterprises. The more money, time, and effort we apply to what some say is a false hope (many even call it a hoax) the less, as Sphinx points out, we have to expend on environmental concerns that actually may make both a short and long term difference. Additionally, the Global Warming Alarmists are turning many people against them with their "what if" scare tactic senarios. These people might support working toward a useful clean environmental effort, but now are directing their efforts toward showing the errors in the Global Warming alarmism. To add to Z's comment - we have one extra day this year to waste the world's efforts on a possible hoax, too. The facts are not all in. All the scientists do not agree. The debate is not over. -------------------- |
