It has been said before you can not travel faster than light, nothing can. Well, there has been a few universities who claimed that have. However, even since the time of Einstein, everyone has theorized what would happened if you did travel than the speed of light? Would time go backwards? What do you think would happen?

If we are talking about instantaneous transfer of matter from point A to point B (regardless of the physical distance), than since it is instantaneous, I don't believe any time would pass at all.

I don't believe that going faster than speed of light would cause time to go backwards due to the problems with time paradoxes if one went backwards in time.

How fast is instantaneous? What speed are you going? Faster than light would be 186,283 miles per second or roughly 300,000 meters per second. Everything has a speed. It's only instantaneous to our eyes. When the flashlight was invented they thought the light was instantaneous.

I'm using "instantaneous" to mean "without delay".

Even at the speed of light, there is a "delay" or measurable time difference that equates to the distance between the two points - i.e. if they are 186,000 miles apart it takes 1 second.

The term, "instantaneous" would mean "no time passing" or "without delay".

How did you calculate that number blackspyder?

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&saf...amp;btnG=Search

the speed of light = 299 792 458 m / s

I do apologize, I was off as well.

Same speed. The speed of dark is the light leaving the area, therefore, it would leave at the speed it entered. Which would be 300,000,000 meters per second.

That can't be right -

I find myself "in the dark" about stuff much faster!

I think the most popular theory, which I agree with is that if you go faster than light, you become pure energy.

Physics = scary stuff! biggrin.gif
I think if you go faster than the speed of light, you would die upon hitting a surface tongue.gif
In all honesty, I have no idea, but I'm skeptical of these universities that claim to have outsmarted Einstein.
