http://www.theadvocates.org/quiz.html

Determines if you are a libertarian, liberal, conservative, centrists, or a statist.

My results:

LIBERTARIAN

LIBERTARIANS support maximum liberty in both personal and economic matters. They advocate a much smaller government; one that is limited to protecting individuals from coercion and violence. Libertarians tend to embrace individual responsibility, oppose government bureaucracy and taxes, promote private charity, tolerate diverse lifestyles, support the free market, and defend civil liberties.

This is where I landed: CONSERVATIVES tend to favor economic freedom, but frequently

support laws to restrict personal behavior that violates "traditional
values." They oppose excessive government control of business,

while endorsing government action to defend morality and the

traditional family structure. Conservatives usually support a strong

military, oppose bureaucracy and high taxes, favor a free-market

economy, and endorse strong law enforcement.

The questions on that site were more neutral that the political compass.

Your PERSONAL issues Score is 50%.
Your ECONOMIC issues Score is 40%.

Welcome to Centrism! I am slightly more Static in government according to the quiz, which I am not by any means, however.
Agreed, if I would have known about this quiz, I wouldn't have bothered with the Political Compass. Nonetheless, this one is slightly conservative in bias, but not nearly as biased as how the PC is liberally. George Bush would have scored in the lower-left on that one wink.gif

...although I ended up more to the right.

I agree, this is much less biased than the PC.

STATISTS want government to have a great deal of power

over the economy and individual behavior. They frequently

doubt whether economic liberty and individual freedom

are practical options in today's world. Statists tend to distrust

the free market, support high taxes and centralized

planning of the economy, oppose diverse lifestyles,

and question the importance of civil liberties.

The RED DOT on the Chart shows where you fit on the political map.

Liberal, and proud of it! wink.gif

LIBERALS usually embrace freedom of choice in personal
matters, but tend to support significant government control of the
economy. They generally support a government-funded "safety net"
to help the disadvantaged, and advocate strict regulation
of business. Liberals tend to favor environmental regulations,
defend civil liberties and free expression, support government action
to promote equality, and tolerate diverse lifestyles.

Wow!

That has got to be the most polite definition of a Liberal I've ever seen.

Just an observation.

Agreed. No offense to the liberals on this board, but some of the more prominent liberals are making the rest of you look bad.

That's what annoys me about politics: beliefs can be ruined by the stupidity of one well-known person.
I also dislike how, in the US, liberals are automatically Democrats, and conservatives are automatically Republicans. It doesn't matter what I believe: both parties are, well, stupid and powercrazy, and I truly do not appreciate their existence in the first place.

Back to the subject at hand, fundamentally, I fail to see how anyone would actually want a statist government. Freedom is a human desire, and any society that questions that is one to be scared of.

Not really, cause they want freedom for what? Some societies get rid of freedom because the most common use of freedom is greed. Which goes along with what you were saying before how a few people can ruin it for the rest of us.

I agree with you that people need to hang Michael Moore, not because of his views, but because he makes everyone look bad. Same goes for any conservitive writer.

I was left out: there is not a place for a monarchist.

I should also add that societies that are not open to all generally end up with their people's lives becoming nasty, poor, brutish, and short.
