Today's news:

Putting aside any personal feelings about either company and their shoddy products, is this a sound idea? How will Yahoo change, and is it worth more than double the current share value to Microsoft? And how might this effect Google?

I've made this mention elsewhere, but I think it can be cost effective.
Two advantages for M$FT/Yahoo
1.. It quadruples the number of hits on it's new, combined, search engine instantly. M$St =7%.YHOO =21% total 28%. GOOG still has 66%.
2.. They consolidate their two separate huge server farms. Combining 2 huge farms, M$FT can now reduce the number of machines. A very cost effective move.

And I'll add combining the two financial networks can't be bad either.
