In the thread on homosexuality, I made the comment that if I were homosexual, I could up my possibilities for sex by 100%. Then I thought it might only be 50%. The more I thought about it, the more I remembered that I had not understood this from the first go round in school. Aside from all the humorous remarks which could proceed from such a conclusion, I wondered what the correct percentage would be, and decided it might require a change in subject material so that the whole discussion doesn't become tangential.

So... if I ate only oranges and thought I could up my fruit intake by adding apples, if I added the same number of apples to the number of oranges I was already having, would I have upped the amount of fruit by 100% or 50%? I realize if I sit here and talk about it, I may end up figuring this out, but since more than just me stumbled over it, I thought I'd pose the question. I suppose if I already had 100% and add another 100% then I will have 200%. I almost wonder if this is more of a grammatical problem than a mathematical one.

Greetings Everyone!
I've just linked over from BC and am happy to find this expansive space for thoughts, opinions, philosophies, discussion, communication and all good things. There is no better place for learning tolerance and making the brain a bigger place than in the internet and I'm grateful to all at BC for recognizing the importance of community online. thumbup.gif
My only wish is that I had a few extra hours in every day.
