Turn your swords into ploughshares.

It seems to me that to achieve peace we need to understand war and the causes of it. To do that we need to go back approximately 8,500 years to the beginning of the cooper age 6,500 BC. Copper was first smelted then when 12 men sat round a fire in the open air and one put a green stone into the fire. Out flowed copper. The copper age had begun and so had the beginnings of humankinds ability to produce tools and weapons; machinery and technology. Tribes, Nation States and Empires have since then at least used force and violence against their rivals to defend and extend their interests.

In the 21st Century we need to find other means of resolving conflicts between tribes, groups such as gangs, nations and empires. We need to find a means of peaceful resolution to conflict. This is particularly important in respect of International conflict. Where the World powers have developed the killing capacity of warfare to an extent that if all the Nuclear bombs were dropped (>50,000) each capable of killing 2,000,000 people. Such an event a Nuclear Holocaust could destroy every human being on earth. Or if they were'nt all destroyed the radiation would cause such a long term health problem that horible birth deformities and radiation illness mat very well render the earth inhabitable.

On the optimistic side. Perhaps in the 22century humankind will look back on the 21st century as a time when humankind, the nations of the world, matured and humankind rose to a higher level of humanity when the violent tantrum of warfare was finally tamed as humankind matured. Such a development could bring with it increased prosperity as the industrial capacity currently emobidied in military production, in all Nations, was redployed into the production of consumer goods. Eg instead of making tanks we make pots and pans.
